Junction Ave School ASB Constitution - Middle School
Article I – Name
The name of this organization shall be the Junction Ave Tk-8 Middle School Associated Student Body (ASB).
Article II – Purpose
The purpose of the ASB shall be to:
- Represent the interests of the student body.
- Promote student activities and school spirit.
- Encourage leadership and responsible citizenship.
- Manage ASB funds in compliance with school district policies and FCMAT guidelines.
- To create and manage the schoolwide Yearbook
Article III – Membership
All students enrolled at Junction Ave Tk-8 are automatic members of ASB and may participate in ASB-sponsored activities.
Article IV – ASB Leadership
Section 1 – ASB Officers
The ASB shall be led by the following elected officers:
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
Section 2 – Eligibility for ASB Office
To be eligible for an ASB officer position, a student must:
- Be a 7th, or 8th-grade student at Junction Ave Tk-8.
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Have no more than one disciplinary office managed referral in the current school year.
- Obtain two teacher or staff recommendations.
Article V – Election Process
Section 1 – Candidate Nomination
- Students must complete an ASB Candidate Application with required signatures.
- Candidates must attend an informational meeting before campaigning.
Section 2 – Campaign Guidelines
- Campaigning must be positive and respectful; no negative statements about other candidates.
- Posters and flyers must be approved by ASB advisors before being displayed, and must be removed by the end of the election date.
- Candidates will create campaign video to be shown in CORE classes. Videos must be approved by ASB advisors before distribution. .
Section 3 – Voting Procedures
- Elections shall be conducted by secret ballot during a designated voting period.
- All students current 6th and 7th graders may vote for ASB officers for the following school year.
- The candidate with the majority of votes for each position shall be declared the winner.
Article VI – Duties of ASB Officers
Section 1 – President
- Leads ASB meetings.
- Represents the student body at school functions.
- Works with the ASB advisor and administration.
Section 2 – Vice President
- Assists the President.
- Oversees student committees.
- Takes over duties if the President is absent.
Section 3 – Secretary
- Records minutes of ASB meetings.
- Handles ASB correspondence and communication.
Section 4 – Treasurer
- Works with the ASB advisor to manage finances.
- Reports on ASB funds and expenditures.
Article VII – Financial Regulations
- All ASB funds shall be deposited into the student body account and used only for student activities.
- The ASB must follow FCMAT regulations and district financial policies for all purchases.
- Any ASB expenditure requires approval from the ASB advisor, principal, and ASB officers.
- Financial records must be reviewed regularly and be available for audit.
Article VIII – Meetings
- ASB shall hold regular meetings at least once a month.
- Meetings shall follow an agenda and include reports from officers.
- A quorum (majority of ASB officers) must be present for any votes.
Article IX – Amendments
- Proposed amendments to this Constitution must be submitted in writing.
- Amendments must be approved by a two-thirds vote of ASB officers and members.
- The school principal must review and approve any amendments.
