PBIS Overview
What is PBIS?

PBIS, or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, is a framework for maximizing the selection and use of evidence-based prevention and intervention practices along a multi-tiered continuum that supports the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral competence of all students. In other words, it is a system of school-wide expectations that is practiced by the entire school to help maintain a positive atmosphere that helps support the whole child. In 2018, Junction Avenue K-8 School was selected as the first K-8 school (and middle school) to implement PBIS from the ground up. Since implementation, Junction has been recognized for the school's commitment to administering the core features of PBIS. Junction has received a bronze award, a silver award, and two gold awards.
Junction Avenue TK-8 students are practicing what it means to "Be a Bulldog" in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, school restrooms, playground, and blacktop. Each month, Junction will focus on an area to promote ways in which we make our school (and ourselves) better! On the next page, samples of posters are provided to show all the examples of positive ways students can "Be a Bulldog" on our campus. If a student is actively showing one of these three expectations, they may get a sticker celebrating them or a "Bulldog Biscuit" which puts them a race for amazing Junction swag at the end of each month! These students deserve to be celebrated for their actions. When you see the posters around campus (or in this newsletter) Be a Bulldog in the Classroom K-8 please note that your child had a direct impact on shaping the culture of our school...and I think they did an amazing job!
